PELLA, Iowa - The University of Dubuque volleyball team bounced back from a five-set loss on Wednesday night with a dominating three-set sweep of the Central Dutch on Saturday afternoon.
The Spartans held the Dutch to a low hitting percentage of .186 for the contest, not breaking the .200 mark in the second or third set. Meanwhile, the Spartan offense was clicking, hitting .324 and .333 in the first two sets. UD would be outhit .143 to .133 in the third set but willed their way to a third set victory for a sweep.
UD scattered 42 kills around six different players with
Darby Hawtrey leading the way with 14.
Emma Powell had a quality performance against the Dutch with 10 kills of her own, while
Julie May added nine and
Katie Wright pitched in seven kills.
The defense was on point for the Spartans, finishing with 12 blocks and 56 digs.
Shauna McAleer was a force at the net with five block assists and Hawtrey added three block assists to go with her 12 kills. Four other Spartans would add one kill.
UD returns home to face Luther on Wednesday night for their final home game of the spring
