DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque softball team added a doubleheader on Friday and it proved to be a good choice. The Spartans would sweep the visiting Greenville University Panthers by scores of 9-0 in five innings and 6-0 in seven innings.
Starting pitcher in game one,
Kayla Breunig earned the no-hitter after facing 16 batters in the opener. She had two strikeouts and didn't allow a walk in her five quick innings of work. Breunig helped her cause on the mound by scoring two RBI's after having two hits in three at bats. The Spartans offense would score in each inning. UD added three runs in the first, two in the second, one in the third, and three in the fourth. The Spartans finished the afternoon with nine runs in 14 hits and both squads played errorless.
Kylee Biedermann scored two runs after going 2-3 at the plate with a pair of RBI's off a homerun.
Deanna Origer and
Lauren Brown would each collect an RBI after a 2-3 performance at the plate.UD left five runners on base and 10 players garnered a hit..
In game two, UD would again hold the Panthers scoreless.Pitcher Lexi schmidt would toss a complete game shutout and allowed just two hits. The Spartans scored seven runs in 10 hits. Biedermann was 3-3 in the lead off spot.
Morgan Turnmire was 2-2 with a double and three RBI's.
UD improves to 5-1 and will face #20-ranked Wartburg College Knights on Saturday, March 20 in Waverly, Iowa at 1 p.m.
