DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque men's lacrosse team scored 14 second half goals on Wednesday afternoon to run past Clarke, 20-6.
The Spartans (2-2) took a staggering 64 shots on Wednesday night, outshooting the Pride 64-13. In the first half, UD rifled off 29 shots, however was only able to score six goals. Meanwhile, Clarke (0-1) recorded two goals on just five shots to make it a 6-2 game at intermission.Â
Clarke would come out in the second half and score three of the first five goals over the first nine minutes but then the floodgates would open for the Spartans. UD would rattle off five goals over a two-minute span to end the third and score nine unanswered goals to blow the game open to a 17-5 score. Clarke would end the run with 6:45 left in the fourth quarter, but for good measure UD tacked on three more goals to make the final score 20-6
Eight different Spartans found the back of the net against the Pride, with five scoring at least two goals. Tanner Weis led the scoring with four goals and two assists, Gavin Hughes added three goals and two assists of his own and Ben Farraday, Tyler Phipps and Noah Perry each scored two goals.
The UD defense held tight on extra-man opportunities for Clarke, holding the Pride scoreless on four extra-man attempts. UD was also nearly perfect in clears, going 18-20.
The Spartans next game at Marian was originally set for Saturday, however it was bumped back a day to Sunday, Mar. 14 with a 5 p.m. start.
