STORM LAKE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque men's basketball team finished their regular season on Monday night in a place which hasn't been too hospitable to the Spartans. Coach
Robbie Sieverding stopped a three game skid against the Beavers and captured the victory in Siebens Center for the first team since 2017-18.
Monday evening the Spartans would lead just 1:05 of the first half and trailed at halftime 37-39. The host Beavers entered the break with two starters in double digit scoring. UD's
Sam Kilburg was the lone Spartan and scored 13 points in the first 20 minutes of action.
The two teams would differ by the play of the bench. UD's reserves would end the night outscoring BV 23-5. The Spartan defense also held BV's Michael Demers to just four points in the second half and would limit BV to two players in double digit scoring. The Spartans
Sam Kilburg led UD with 21 points after 8-12 shooting from the field.
Patrick Mayfield added 14 points,
Peter Ragen 11 points and
Levi Scheuermann 10 points off the bench. Keegen Zimmerman led the rebounding with eight, but UD would be out rebounded in the game 32-29. UD made 28-55 shots from the field (50.9%), 11-16 at the free throw line (68.8%), and were 9-20 from the three point area (45%).
Saturday's final postponed game at Nebraska Wesleyan University has been cancelled and will not be made up. The #7-ranked Spartans 11-0 overall and 7-0 in American Rivers Conference play will now prepare for the A-R-C Tournament play which begins on March 8 with a play-in game with #9 seed playing at #8 seed. The quarterfinal rounds begin on Tuesday, March 9, with semi-finals on Thursday, March 11, and championship scheduled to be played on March 13 at highest remaining seed for the conference championship.
