DECORAH, Iowa - The University of Dubuque wrestling team faced a tough American Rivers Conference opponent on the road on Tuesday night and the Spartans would capture the victory 23-16 over the Luther College Norse.

The Spartans fell behind early after UD's Cade Hornback lost 10-6 at 125 lbs. Carson Sauriol (133 lbs.) would tie the match after capturing a 5-3 decision. Luther responded by retaking the lead with a win in 141 lbs. over Jevontae Yarbrough 9-2. Luke Radeke captured a fall with time running out at 6:59 to extend the Spartan lead to 9-6. In the 157 lbs. match, Luther would squeak out a 7-6 decision over Jessy Diaz to knot the match up 9-9 midway through the meet.

Liam Corbett added some extra team points with a tech fall in 2:25 (16-1) in the 165 lbs. weight class. UD's 7th-ranked Zarik Anderson would not allow a point in a 5-0 decision at 174 lbs. Luther won the 184 lbs. match with a major decision over Pilo Perez to slice the Spartan lead to 13-17. Chris Nielsen lost by a decision 1-6 at 197 lbs. and brought the match to within a point 16-17. The final match of the evening would decide the team victory at 285 lbs. UD's Darryl Aiello would earn a throw early in the match only to have it stopped when it was too close to the edge. The pair would fight off attempts before late in the period, Aiello was able to toss again and earned the fall in 2:07 once again near the side of the mat. The fall would hand the Spartans a road victory with a 23-16 final team score.

The Spartans will host the American Rivers UD Triangular on Saturday, Feb. 13 at noon. UD will wrestle the Buena Vista University Beavers at 1:30 p.m. and will face the Coe College Kohawks at 3:00 p.m. in the Chlapaty Recreation and Wellness Center.
