Spartans Win at St. Olaf College Country Inn & Suites Holiday Classic

NORTHFIELD, Minn. - The University of Dubuque women's basketball team played their final game of the St. Olaf College Country Inn & Suites Holiday Classic against the host of the tournament the St. Olaf Oles who came into the contest at a 3-5 record. The Spartans managed to cap off a great second and fourth quarters to win by double figures 67-54. The Spartans went 1-1 in the classic this week. 

The Spartans found themselves in a hole early as they would trail the Oles 19-15 before a second quarter surge where the Spartans outscored the Oles 18-5 to gain a nine point advantage at the half 33-24. The Spartans struggled in the third quarter where they went 0-4 from beyond the arc, but would still manage a slim 48-46 lead. The fourth quarter was much like to second where the Spartans would dominate to increase their lead and where able to hit clutch free throws down the stretch to secure the win. 

The Spartans had two in double figures with Tabria Thomas leading all scorers with 21 and Karsen Kershner finished with 16. The Spartans were able to force 20 Oles turnovers and covert them into 19 points. The Spartans ended the game shooting 23-29 (79.3%) from the free throw line. 

Two Spartans were named to the six player All-Tournament Team: Tabria Thomas and Karsen Kershner. Below is the six-player All-Classic Team for this weekend's Country Inn & Suites Holiday Classic:

The Spartans end 2021 with an 8-4 record and look to the new year when they return to the floor Wednesday, January 4 as they head down highway 151 to take on the Coe College Kohawks at 5:30 p.m in Cedar Rapids.
