NORTHFIELD, Minn. - The University of Dubuque women's basketball team is competing this week in the St. Olaf College Country Inn & Suites Holiday Classic against some great ranked competition. They started the classic with a contest against the #23-ranked UW-Oshkosh Titans where they would fall by a final score of 60-36.
The Spartans could not buy a basket in the first half as they managed to only shoot 18.8% from the field and didn't make a shot from beyond the arc. The Titans would manage a 33-19 advantage halfway through the game. The second half was much of the same and the Spartans struggled to even get shots off due to the stingy Titan defense. The Titans would extend their halftime lead throughout the second half to win the contest comfortably.
No Spartans managed to reach double figures.
Tabria Thomas was the leading scorer with eight points and
Karsen Kershner had six. Ten of the eleven Spartans who entered the game today contributed in scoring. The Spartans were only held to 20 points in the paint and 17 turnovers in the loss.
The Spartans continue the Country Inn & Suites Holiday Classic tomorrow against the St. Olaf College Oles tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. inside Skoglund Athletic Center in Northfield, Minn. This week St. Olaf announced several safety measures due to the increase in COVID cases due to the Omicron variant. One significant change that is relevant to this week's tournament is a new fan guest policy. Effective immediately, attendance at St. Olaf home events will be limited to TWO guests per each member of the home and visiting teams travel party.
