STORM LAKE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque women's basketball jumped out to a quick 10 point lead to open Wednesday night's game at Buena Vista University Beavers. The Spartans would lead through three quarters before a 2-15 final shooting in the final quarter would doom their chance for victory in a 67-76 loss.
UD led after the first quarter 26-16 and would outscore the host Beavers in the second period 20-17 to lead halftime 46-33. BV out scored the Spartans 22-13 in the third quarter and held UD to eight points in the fourth 8-21. The Spartans bench would add just nine points in the loss.
Lauren Livingston and
Tabria Thomas would each score 19 points.
Kathleen Mathias added 14 points and led in rebounding with seven. The Spartans made 24-63 shot attempts (38.1%), but struggled at the free throw line after sinking 16-31 attempts (51.6%). UD was out rebounded 28-40 to the Beavers. The Spartans held the lead for 32:14 of the fourty minutes and led by as many as 16 in the first half.
UD will continue American Rivers Conference play when they return home to host the Central College Dutch on Saturday, Dec. 4 in Stoltz Sports Center on Jon Davison Court.
