Wrestling Open Season at UW-Platteville Invitational

PLATTEVILLE - Wis. - The University of Dubuque wrestling team began their season on Saturday, Nov. 6 at the UW-Platteville Invitational and would claim eight place winners and a consolation champion against a strong field of grapplers. The Spartans were le by two runner-up finishes: Zarik Anderson (157 lbs.) lost in the championship 2-3 against Darian Estevez of University of Chicago.and teammate Tyler Thurston lost in the championship finals by 3-9 final score to Loras' Colin Murphy.

The Spartans finished the invitational with 36 wins and 36 losses as a team. UD collected 10 falls in a combined 38:52 and David Villa led with two falls in 5:19. Liam Corbett earned the most match points with 38. He was trailed closely by teammates Zarik Anderson with 30 match points and Cade Hornback with 27 match points.

The Spartans return home on Nov. 13 when they host the Jim Fox Invite. Tickets: $8 for adults, $5 for senior citizens, and $3 for students. Matches begin at 10 a.m. and we will have four mats in two gyms. Stoltz Sports Center - All Gold Matches (varsity/upperclassmen) on Mat #1 and Mat #2 and McCormick Gymnasium - All Silvers matches (freshmen only) on Mat #3 and Mat #4
