Women's Basketball 3-0 in Road Wins, Prepare for A-R-C Home Opener

MOUNT VERNON, Iowa - The University of Dubuque women's basketball have jumped out to a 3-0 overall record this season after Thursday's win over Cornell College 64-48. The Spartans sank 27-60 shot attempts (45%) and led by as many as 18 points late in the third quarter and led the game with a dominating 35:16 of the 40 minutes.

UD's offense was led by Karsen Kershner who came off the bench to lead all scorers with 21 points after 10-14 shooting from the field. Tabria Thomas finished with 13 points and Allison Bailey led rebounding with 10 including eight defensive boards.

The Spartans defense forced the host Rams into committing 20 turnovers and held them to 29.7% shooting from the field. UD was chilly from beyond the three point arc and made just 2-12 attempts for 16.7%. UD battled inside and out rebounded Cornell 48-37 and scored 44 points in the paint.

UD will open American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) play on Tuesday, Nov. 23 at 5:30 p.m. in Stoltz Sports Center on Jon Davison Court when they will host the Wartburg College Knights. The Knights (2-0) host UW-Platteville in Waverly, Iowa on Nov. 20 at 6:30 p.m. The 2021-22 A-R-C schedule begins on Tuesday, November 23 with six of the nine schools competing. Simpson College will travel to Dubuque for a match-up with Loras College,UD will host Wartburg College, and Luther College will host Coe College.

The American Rivers Conference season is a 16-game double round-robin schedule finishing on Saturday, February 19. The league's top six teams from the regular season standings qualify for the A-R-C Tournament. The Conference Tournament will be held Tuesday, February 22 (First Round), Thursday, February 24 (Semifinals), and Saturday, February 26 (Championship). Game locations for the A-R-C Tournament are at the higher seeded team's venue. The American Rivers Conference Tournament champion receives the league's automatic qualifier to the NCAA Division III tournament.
