ROCKFORD, Ill. – The University of Dubuque women's basketball team (1-0) looked to continue the momentum from their opening night win with a trip to Rockford University on Tuesday night. It has been a week since the Spartans last seen the floor and it showed as UD struggled in the first quarter shooting 21.1% from the field. The Spartans trailed 11-20 after the first quarter. UD would shoot the ball slightly better in the second quarter, but not enough to chip away at the Rockford lead to go into halftime down 22-32.

The second half was an entirely different Spartan team, they would exit the locker room and control the tempo of the game and played stingy defense holding Rockford to only 15 total points in the second half. The Spartans would overcome a 10-point deficit at halftime and leave Rockford with a 58-47 victory.

The Spartans were led tonight by Tabria Thomas who shot 50% from the field for 20 points. The Spartans would get 42 of their 58 points in the paint tonight. The Spartans also rebounded the ball well on the offensive glass as they would get 20 second chance points.

"It was great to see our team battle through a tough shooting night and still get the win," commented coach Justin Smith. "We have talked a lot about always bringing a strong defensive mindset and that definitely helped us fight through a poor shooting night."

The Spartans take their 2-0 record to in-state foe Cornell College on Thursday night with tip-off scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in Mount Vernon, Iowa.
