DECORAH, Iowa – The University of Dubuque women's soccer team went on the road for the first round of the American Rivers Conference women's soccer tournament to play the Luther College Norse. The Spartans hosted the Norse just 10 days ago where they lost 2-0. The Spartans were hoping to avenge the loss, but were unable to find the offense against a staunch defense and would finish with the 1-0 loss.
In the first half the Spartans were very aggressive on defense, but a Luther shot in the sixth minute would hit off the goal post and squeak its way into the back of the net to give the Norse an early 1-0 lead. Spartans played hard the entire game, but could not find shots to fight their way back as the Norse moved on to the next round with a 1-0 victory over the Spartans.
The Spartans were held to four shots and just two on goal by the fiesty Norse defense. They would finish with three corner kicks, but the chances to find the net were held at bay. Karissa Chalus would record three saves in the loss. Sixteen Spartans would see action in the game as both teams committed 13 fouls.
The Spartans end their A-R-C tournament early and will look toward the A-R-C All-Conference selections next week. The 2021 All-American Rivers Conference Women's Soccer Team is scheduled to be released on Wednesday, Nov. 10.
