INDIANOLA, Iowa - The University of Dubuque men's basketball team was scheduled to play the Central College Dutch on Saturday in Pella, but a postponement changed the Spartans game plan. UD would substitute the Simpson College Storm in place of the Dutch. UD captured the non-conference tilt 84-65 to maintain a unblemished record of 4-0 overall.
The Spartans would finish with four out of five starters in double digit scoring. Freshman
Sam Kilburg led UD in scoring with 17 points after connecting on 7-8 attempts from the field.
Peter Ragen added 14 points after sinking 7-9 attempts at the free throw line.
Patrick Mayfield and
Trent Fitzpatrick would both finish with 12 points and
Brock Simon ended with 10 points.Simon led UD in rebounding with eight as the Spartans held a slim edge in rebounding over the Storm 37-33.
UD made 27-57 attempts from the field, 6-17 from the three point area, and sank 24-33 free throw attempts. Defensively the Spartans forced the Storm into committing 17 turnovers and would score 19 points. The Spartans bench outscored the Storm 29-21.
The Spartans are scheduled to host the Coe College Kohawks on Wednesday, Jan. 27 at 5:30 p.m. in Stoltz Sports Center.
