Alex McCombs enters his fifth year as Assistant Director of Sports Information at the University of Dubuque in the 2026–2027 academic year and ninth overall with the department. He was appointed to his current role in August 2022 after serving as the department’s first graduate assistant for one year (2021-2022) and spent three years (2017–2020) as a student assistant.
Since joining the staff full time, McCombs has supported the promotion of 24 intercollegiate sports at the University of Dubuque. His responsibilities include creating game programs, writing game recaps, managing the athletics website, inputting and maintaining statistics, updating record books, and coordinating student-athlete nominations for conference and national awards.
McCombs has been a member of College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA) since 2021 and was selected to participate in the NCAA Division III Athletic Communicators Emerging Elite Program at the NCAA national office in Indianapolis in December 2025.
A native of Jesup, Iowa, McCombs earned his bachelor’s degree in Sport Marketing & Management in 2020 and his master’s degree in Management – Sport Management in 2022, both from the University of Dubuque.
He resides in Dubuque with his wife, Haley; daughter, Emerson; and goldendoodle, Wrigley.
