Dylan, finished his collegiate wrestling career competing for the University of Dubuque and achieving NCAA All American honors at 133 lbs. (5th place). He earned three varsity letters at Ohio State University.

Koontz was a runner-up in the 2021 Senior US Nationals in Greco-Roman Wrestling at 60kg, and placed 3rd in the 2022 US Open. He placed 4th overall in the US World Team Trials in 2021 and 2023, losing in the 3rd place match at the 2023 Final X event.
