Seamus Gregory is entering his third season with the Spartans after being named the school’s inaugural men’s hockey coach in 2023.
Prior to joining the Spartans, Gregory was the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics since January of 2019 and head men’s hockey coach at Northland College in Ashland, Wis. from 2014-2023. He is the all-time leader for wins in men’s hockey at Northland. His teams qualified for the playoffs six times and he earned Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) 2016-017 Coach of the Year Award.
Since his time at Northland College, Gregory has been the lead for many fundraising initiatives which included the Annual Northland College Golf Classic, Varsity Club, and other corporate fundraising opportunities. He was active in the local community and dedicated much of his time and efforts to building the Athletic Department’s relationship in the regional area and beyond.
Prior to Gregory’s arrival at Northland, he served as the Head Men’s Hockey Coach and Assistant Athletic Director at Williston State College in Williston, N. D. He was their inaugural coach and helped start the hockey program at Williston. He led his team to the NJCAA tournament and a National Runner-up finish in the program’s first year in 2012.
He guided his team to back-to-back NJCAA National Championships and was also named National Coach of the Year in 2013 and 2014. His director duties included all corporate fundraising and advertising, he was also the athletic liaison to the Teton Booster club.
Prior to Williston he coached at Lake Forest College as head coach from 2010-11 and as an assistant coach from 2008-2010. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in education, history and sociology degree at St. Thomas University in New Brunswick, Canada in 2003.
He resides in Dubuque with his family.
