Derek Glynn will enter the 2022 season as the Safeties Coach, Special Teams Coordinator and Video Coordinator. He joined the Spartans staff in 2020 as the Safeties Coach.
As the Safeties Coach, Glynn was a part of a Defensive Secondary that ranked 3rd in the conference in overall Passing Defense and ranked 1st in Defensive Efficiency in the 2021 season. He also coached the first and third place finishers in total tackles on the Spartan Defense.
Prior to joining the Spartans, Glynn worked at Concordia University-St. Paul assisting with the Linebackers. He also was a Student-Assistant Coach at his Alma-Mater, Augsburg University, for the spring of 2019, also assisting with the Linebackers. Prior to coaching football, Glynn worked as a Strength and Conditioning Coach.
Glynn was the epitome of a student-athlete while a player at Augsburg University. He was a four-year starter for the Auggies, being awarded CoSIDA Academic All-District as a Linebacker twice in his tenure. He was also a three-time All-Conference Linebacker, as well as a Second Team All-West District Linebacker his senior campaign. In 40 games played, Glynn finished his career with 348 tackles, 21.5 tackles-for-loss, 8 sacks, 7 pass break-ups, 2 forced fumbles and 1 interception.
Glynn earned his bachelor’s degree from Augsburg University in the fall of 2019 where he majored in Exercise Science. He holds a graduate degree from the University of Dubuque in Management with an emphasis in Sports Management which he earned in the spring of 2022.
