DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque men's tennis opened American Rivers Conference play on a brisk 55 degree Friday afternoon and captured the victory over the Buena Vista University Beavers 6-1. The Spartans all three doubles matches to earn the double point. UD would win 5-6 singles matches to open league play with a win.
Gavin Murrie and
Jake Wallrichs won #1 doubles 6-1,
Jake Westberry and
Alex Gaull captured the #2 doubles by a 6-1 margin, and
Andrew Bollis and
Alexander Hardin earned the sweep of the doubles with a 6-4 victory.
In singles action,
Gavin Murrie won #1 singles 6-0, 6-1, at #2 singles,
Jake Wallrichs won 6-1, 6-1,
Tanner Laube won #3 singles 6-1, 6-2, at #4 singles
Jake Westberry won 6-0, 6-4,
Alex Gaull lost at #5 singles, but the match wasn't settled until a third set tiebreak 3-6, 7-5, 11-9, and #6 singles
Elia Desario won 6-1, 6-2.

UD (6-5 overall, 1-0 in A-R-C) will host the Nebraska Wesleyan University Prairiewolves on Saturday, April 11 at 10:00 a.m. and on Sunday, April 12 will host the Coe College Kohawks at 2:00 p.m. Weather could affect play, so matches will either be played outside at the Frank Farber Tennis Courts or moved indoors to the Chlapaty Recreation and Wellness Center on Saturday and Sunday.
