DUBUQUE, Iowa – The University of Dubuque baseball team hosted Coe College for a midweek conference game on Tuesday afternoon and fell 11-6. Will Sullivan led the offensive effort, driving in two runs on sacrifice flies and another on a double.
Coe plated an unearned run in the first inning, opening the game with a 1-0 lead. Alex Esser drove a ball into the gap and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Sullivan to tie the game at one after one inning. Coe scored two more runs in the second inning, one of which was unearned. Brady Buchmann responded by launching a two-strike slider into orbit, cutting the Spartans' deficit to one. Coe plated two more runs in the third and tacked on three in the fourth, building their lead to 8-2. Connor Lyons, who had just entered the game to pitch, torched a 1-0 fastball into the right-center field gap for his first career hit, plating two runs and cutting the deficit to four. Coe would extend their lead once again before a double and sacrifice fly by Sullivan closed the scoring at 11-6.
Sullivan tallied three RBI on Tuesday, going 1-2 with two sacrifice flies, a double, and a hit by pitch. Buchmann's first career home run was the brightest spot today for Spartans hitters. Esser finished the day with multiple hits and stole a base. In addition to his two-RBI triple in the fourth inning, Lyons pitched one inning where he allowed one run on one hit.
Ashr Harris received the loss for the Spartans. He tossed the first 3.1 innings, allowing seven hits and eight runs while striking out and walking two. Jaden Marcus, Matthew Risser, and Colton Karczewski all posted strong relief appearances to keep the Spartans in the contest late.

The Spartans will travel to Indianola to take on Simpson College this weekend for a three-game A-R-C series. Friday's game will begin at 6:00 p.m., while Saturday's doubleheader will commence at 1:00 p.m.
