DECATUR, Ill. – The University of Dubuque baseball team played their first true road game against Millikin University on Friday evening. Despite taking an early 2-0 lead, the Spartans fell 7-2.
Ashr Harris started the contest with a single through the left side. After Ryan Turner bunted Harris to second, Will Sullivan and Logan Cadenhead added doubles to plate the Spartans' two runs on Friday. The Big Blue answered with two runs of their own in the bottom of the first to tie the game at two runs apiece. Millikin plated two runs in the third off of three Spartans errors to take a 4-2 lead. The Big Blue had two runners on with none out in the fourth but stranded both. Millikin plated two more in the fifth and added a run in the eighth and ultimately handed the Spartans a 7-2 loss.
Five Spartans collected a hit during the contest, with Sullivan and Cadenhead driving in the lone runs. Zavion Ingram started on the mound, throwing 1.1 innings of two-run ball. Dominic Pelizza threw 3.2 innings, and Connor Lyons tossed the final three frames, allowing no earned runs.
