WAVERLY, Iowa - The University of Dubuque women's basketball team traveled to Waverly, Iowa for their fourth straight road game where they took on the (RV) Wartburg College Knights.
Grace Brumley and
Karsyn Pankonen each scored 11 points as the Spartans would go on to lose by a final score of 73-44 to the Knights.
After a quick deficit in the opening minutes of the game, the Spartans pulled to within 13-12 after
Grace Brumley knocked down one of her three made three-pointers on the night. Wartburg would go on an ensuing 9-0 run by making a trio of three-pointers. The Spartans would cut the Knights lead to six to end the first quarter after back-to-back layups in the final minute.
The Spartans got as close as four points in the second quarter before Wartburg extended their lead to 11 at the half. The Spartans were 5-6 (83.33%) in the second at the free throw line.
Wartburg controlled much of the second half, as Brumley would bury two more three-pointers in the fourth quarter on consecutive shots by the sophomore. Brumley and Pankonen each finished with 11 points, while
Christina Simonetti scored eight points and grabbed eight rebounds.
