DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque women's basketball team concluded their season on Saturday afternoon with a 59-45 loss to the Nebraska Wesleyan University Prairie Wolves. After the game the Spartans celebrated the careers of
Kaitlyn Powell,
Claire Nazos,
Taylor Martin, and
Christina Simonetti.
The Spartans had a great first quarter, making their first three shots of the game to take an early 8-6 lead. The Spartans led by as many as five in the first and even without a point in the final four minutes, the Spartans led by two. The Spartans would be outscored in the second quarter and trail 31-24 at the half.
The Spartans chipped away in the third quarter with an 8-0 run that was capped off by a
Karsyn Pankonen three-pointer to take the lead back 32-31. Six of the eight points on the run were scored by Pankonen. The Spartans would trail by four heading into the final 10 minutes.
The Spartans would only make two field goals in the final quarter as NWU would pull ahead by double digits to seal the game.
Simonetti would cap off her career with her 10th double double of the season, finishing with 19 points and 15 rebounds in 32 minutes. She ends her career with tying the sixth most rebounds in a single season with 245 rebounds.
The Spartans ended their season on Saturday and will miss the four seniors who were celebrated today for all of their accomplishments in their respective careers.
