LAKE FOREST, Ill. – The University of Dubuque men's hockey team battled Lake Forest College to a 2-2 tie thanks to two late goals by Nikita Borodaenko. The Spartans fell in the ensuing shootout 2-0.
The Spartans trailed 2-0 after two periods but with seven minutes remaining, Andon Coles set up Nikita Borodaenko who found the net to cut the deficit to one. The score remained 2-1 and the Spartans pulled their goalie with a minute left. The strategic move paid off, as Brandon Rossetti and Kaden Dundas found Borodaenko, allowing the senior to score for a second time and tie the game with thirty seconds remaining. The Spartans mustered four shots in the overtime period, but the Foresters goalie saved them all, sending the match to a deciding shootout. In the shootout, the Foresters stuffed the Spartans' shots and scored two of their own to win the shootout 2-0.
Borodaenko scored both Spartans goals on five shots. Zach Burfoot led the Spartans with six shots while nine Spartans blocked a shot during the contest. Zak Wentworth won six of his 14 face-offs for the Spartans. In goal, Beau Altman performed phenomenally, making 27 saves over 64 minutes of game time.
