#6 Adrian Pulls Away Late as Men's Hockey Sustains Home Loss

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The University of Dubuque men's hockey team hosted #6 Adrian College on a frigid Saturday afternoon in ImOn Arena. Despite keeping the game tied through the first 35 minutes, the Spartans ultimately fell 5-1.

Despite both teams playing the first period at a breakneck pace, the game remained scoreless until the final minute of the first period. A Spartans penalty allowed the Bulldogs to net a power-play goal with 20 seconds left to take a 1-0 lead into the first intermission. A similarly quick pace continued into the start of the second period. Eight minutes in, a penalty by the Adrian keeper gave the Spartans a power-play opportunity. With 20 seconds left in the power-play, Zach Cline found Andon Coles, who fired a shot towards the keeper. The puck bounced directly to Nolan Underwood, who slid the puck past the goalie and knotted the game at one apiece. Five minutes later, miscommunication by Spartans defensemen allowed a Bulldogs skater to break away and find the net, giving them a 2-1 lead they would take into the second intermission. The Bulldogs added a third goal seven minutes into the third period. The Bulldogs scored an empty net goal and added a fifth goal with 30 seconds remaining, as the game finished 5-1 in favor of Adrian.

Wilder Jacober led the Spartans with three shots and Brock Weimer went 11-14 on face-offs during the contest. Underwood tallied his first goal of the season on Saturday. Beau Altman manned the net for the Spartans, making 33 saves in just under sixty minutes of ice time.
