Box Score ELMHURST, Ill. - The University of Dubuque men's soccer team entered the pitch at Elmhurst on Wednesday night in a non-conference match. The Spartans started strong and held the hosts scoreless through the opening half of action. The Bluejays rallied late in the second half to score a pair of goals to win by the final 2-0.
The Spartans started quickly by taking the first two shots of the game by Mario Meier and Lucas Albright. The Spartans defense kept Elmhurst from getting its first shot of the game until the 17th minute. Despite good offensive opportunities from both teams before the halftime whistle, neither team found the back of the net and were locked in a stalemate 0-0. UD led at the break with five shots while the hosts ended with four shots.
In the second half, the two squads traded possessions until the 63rd minute when the Bluejays scored the first goal of the match at 63:22, Less than 10 minutes later the hosts scored their second goal at 72:22, putting the Spartans in a 2-0 deficit. The Bluejays out shot UD in the second half 9-3.
UD's Mario Meier, Lucas Albright, and Jose Serra all finished the night with two shots each. Sam Matthews and Winston Hedvall each collected a shot in the road loss. Eighteen Spartans saw action in a cool fall night in the Midwest. Keeper Riley Johnson played all 90 minutes in goal and earned two saves, one in each half.
