Platteville, Wis. - The University of Dubuque men's soccer team traveled to UW-Platteville on Tuesday night for a non-conference match. The Spartans scored first, but the Pioneers scored three goals late in the game as UD fell 3-1 on the road.
The first half of the game was quiet.
Ebbot Bekkebraaten had a chance at 36:11, but it went wide right of the goal, leaving the game locked in a stalemate. The Spartans struck quick out of the break, and at 48:18,
Mario Meier linked up with
Winston Hedvall for the first goal of the game. UD held onto their lead until the Pioneers equalized at 71:10. Late in the game, the Pioneers found two goals to make it 3-1. The Spartans tried to find an answer at the end, but fell 3-1 after the full 90 minutes.
Riley Johnson had a good performance with a season high of seven saves in goal for the Spartans.
Winston Hedvall added a second goal to his increasing goal contributions; Hedvall is now at two assists and two goals for the year.

The Spartans return home Friday, September 19, to face Greenville University. The game is Dubuque Soccer Club night and will kick off at 7:00 p.m. at Oyen Field.
