Men's Tennis Split Final Day of 2024-25 Season on Senior Day

CEDAR RAPIDS/DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque men's tennis team was forced by local rain to move their opening match on Friday to Cedar Rapids as UD is hosting graduation inside the Chlapaty Recreation and Wellness Center and then returned later in the afternoon for Senior Day against the Simpson College Storm. The Spartans lost to Central College 6-1, but rallied back at home on Frank Farber Tennis Courts for a dominating 6-1 victory over the Storm to finish their season 10-11 overall and 2-6 in the American Rivers Conference.

UD's lone win against Central was #1 singles Gavin Murrie who won the first set in a tie break 7-6 (7-4), 5-7, and won the tie-break 7-5. The Spartans won 6-1 over the Storm and won 2-3 double matches to secure the point. Highlight of the second match was Jake Wallrichs who secured the #2 singles match, winning 7-5, losing 7-6 (3-7), and winning super tie-break 10-5 just as light rain began to fall.

The Spartans finished their second season under head coach Chad Fenwick 10-11 overall and 2-6 in A-R-C and would just miss qualifying for the A-R-C team tournament. Gavin Murrie led the Spartans with a 15-6 overall record and was 5-3 in league play. His three losses were to league champions Luther College, Coe College, and to Loras College in a super tie-break.

Saturday finished the Spartans men's tennis for the school year. UD will look to keep improving their overall and conference record when they kickoff their fall schedule in 2025.
