DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque softball team captured their first doubleheader sweep in over a month on Thursday when they won 4-3 and 8-0 in five innings over the Beloit College Buccanneers on the UD Softball Field.
The Spartans used late game heroics in the opener after entering the bottom of the seventh inning trailing 3-2. UD led off with a strikeout swinging before back-to-back hit by pitches put runners at first and second. A ground out advanced runners to second and third before a wild pitch scored the tying run with
Kaitlyn Powell crossing the plate and
Grace Stevenson advancing to third.
Katie Hayes earned the walk to add a second runner on base.
Lauren Jacobs singled to third base earning the game winning RBI when Stevenson scored under the tag at home for the 4-3 victory,
UD scored four runs with five hits and committed a pair of errors, Beloit scored three runs off four hits and played errorless.
Amber Wisely secured the victory in relief after facing six batters in her one inning pitched. Starter
Miranda Saylor Allowed two earned runs, struck out two after facing 24 batters in her six innings. A pair of Spartans finished with two hits each.
Lauren Jacobs went 2-4 with the game winning RBI,
Audrey Morris was 2-2 with the games lone triple.
Game two was all Spartans offense after they scored in all five innings. UD scored three runs in the first, two in the second, one run in the third, fourth and fifth innings.
Amber Wisely captured her second win of the day and held Beloit to just two hits and fanned five Buccanneers after facing just 17 batters in her five inning win.
UD's offense finished with five Spartans ending the contest with two hits each.

The Spartans (18-14 overall, 5-7 in A-R-C) will enjoy a day rest on Good Friday before hosting the Buena Vista University Beavers (7-19 overall, 0-8 in A-R-C) for an American Rivers Conference doubleheader on Saturday of Easter Weekend for Senior Day.
