Softball Finishes 7-3 at Space Coast Spring Games

MELBOURNE, Fla. - The University of Dubuque softball team finished the Space Coast Spring Games with a 7-3 record and improved to 9-3 overall. The Spartans swept on their final day of spring break upsetting unbeaten John Carroll University 4-3 and winning the second in a comeback 6-3.

UD faced 6-0 John Carroll University in the opener and never trailed in the game. UD led early 2-0 before adding a pair of runs in the third inning. John Carroll battled back and added two runs in the top of the 7th to make the game interesting. The Spartans scored four runs off eight hits as John Carroll scored three runs off 11 hits. Grace Stevenson 2-3 with an RBI and a run scored, Lauren Jacobs was 2-2 with a triple, Audrey Morris was 2-3  with two RBI's and a triple.

Ally Gullette earned her fifth win of the season after pitching a complete game allowing 11 hits, striking out two, and allowing just one earned run after facing 34 batters.

For the second time this week, UD faced Rivier (2-6 overall) and rallied back from a 0-3 deficit to put four runs in the top of the 6th and added a pair of runs in the top of the seventh for the ninth victory of the season for the Spartans. UD scored six runs off eight hits and committed two errors. Rivier scored three runs off 11 hits and committed four errors. UD left seven runners on base and Rivier left eight runners on base in the loss.

Ciaran Rigby earned the win after tossing 4.1 innings in relief, facing 18 batters and allowing six hits. Miranda Saylor started and went 2.2 innings allowing just five hits and three earned runs after facing 14 batters. The duo did not walk a batter in the game. Katie Hayes and Megan Leick both collected a double in the win. Hayes and Anna Luczak finished with two RBI's and Leick had one RBI.

The Spartans return home and will travel to Carlinville, Ill. for a doubleheader against the Blackburn College Beavers on Friday, March 14 at 4:00 and 6:00 p.m.
