Spartans Place 6th at 2025 NCAA Region VI Championships, Three Spartans Advance to National Championships

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The University of Dubuque men's wrestling team rallied on Saturday to finish 6th in the 2025 NCAA Region VI Championships with 115 points.

UD finished with eight place winners and were led by Pilo Perez who found his way to the championship match at 197 lbs. after a fall in 6:50 over Mathieu Arsenault (Coe). He lost in the finals by a fall to Massoma Endene (Wartburg) in the final minute (6:07). He will advance to the 2025 NCAA Division III National Championships being hosted by Johnson & Wales University at the Amica Mutual Pavillion on March 14-15.

Joining Pilo Perez will be Brett Back (149 lbs.) who wrestled through the bracket to place third with a win by fall over Dresden Grimm (Coe) in 2:20. Zane Pannell at 174 lbs. joins the pair earning his way to the national championships after he won by a decision over David Burgess (Huntingdon) 6-1. A very successful tournament for 26 American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) competitors headed to Rhode Island to compete in the national tournament. The A-R-C claimed all 10 weight class titles in the 2025 Region VI Championships.
