DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque men's soccer team played Luther College to a 1-1 draw in their first home A-R-C game of the season. It was a quiet first half before the intensity picked up with a fast-paced second half.

In the first half of the match, it was a possession battle for both teams as the UD defense held firm. Towards the end of the half, at 40:33, Ebbot Bekkebraaten got the shot off from a quality ball, but the Norse goalkeeper made the save. At the break, the Spartans and Norse were locked in a 0-0 stalemate.

To start the second half, Nic Hubbard was called upon on multiple occasions, stepping up to make three saves within the first 10 minutes. The Spartans struck at 70:47, where a long throw from Elliot Solberg found the foot of Mario Meier, who struck the ball pure to place it perfectly into the bottom corner of the net to give the Spartans a 1-0 lead. Striking quick, Winston Hedvall got the shot off at 71:58, forcing a strong save. Luther made it 1-1 at 78:49 with the equalizer. With both teams wanting the win, it was Lucas Albright who had a brilliant shot into the top left-hand corner at the death of the game, which was met by a save from the Norse goalkeeper. At the full-time whistle, the game ended 1-1.

Nic Hubbard had five saves for the Spartans. Lucas Albright led the team in shots with two, and it was Mario Meier who scored for UD on the assist from Elliot Solberg.

The Spartans will hit the road on Wednesday, October 8, to play Wartburg College. The game will be in Waverly, Iowa, at Salzwedel Field, kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
