Men's Soccer Fall 2-0 in Physical Match with the Prairie Wolves

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque men's soccer team played at home on Saturday afternoon for its fourth conference match of the season. The game was a closely battled 2-0 loss for the Spartans to the Nebraska Wesleyan Prairie Wolves.

The first half started with a strong back-and-forth between both teams, neither side able to find the breakthrough early in the game. At 27:04, the Prairie Wolves scored to make it 1-0. Jose Serra had a good shot on goal to nearly equalize the score just minutes after, but had his attempt saved. After a solid save by Nic Hubbard late in the first half, the Spartans went into the break with a 1-0 deficit.

The match was physical in the first half but ramped up in the second with both teams battling for every ball. Hubbard was equal to the Prairie Wolves' early attempts in the second period, making another strong save. Nebraska Wesleyan scored at 77:46 to make the score 2-0. Jonatan Banuelos almost brought the score to within one after he had a strong attempt saved at 80:30. Elia Desario also had a great shot on goal saved late in the game. Despite a strong effort, the Spartans fell 2-0 to the Prairie Wolves.

Leading the way for UD was Sam Matthews in midfield, who had three shots, and Luka Tomic with two shots.

The Spartans will have a quick turnaround as they play at home again on Tuesday, October 14, to face the Simpson College Storm. The game is scheduled to kick off at 7:30 p.m. at Oyen Field.
