Box Score DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque men's hockey team fell behind early, but scored two late third period goals in a 6-2 home defeat to the Gustavus Adolphus College Golden Gusties at ImOn Arena.
The Spartans finished the night with 31 shots by 12 different individuals. UD was led by
Nikita Borodayenko who had a team high eight shots.
Max Erstad trailed with five shots and
Thomas Gazich ended the night with four shots. Gustavus compiled 36 shots by 14 individuals. The Spartans won 30 faceoffs and
Nikita Borodayenko led UD with 13 faceoff wins.
UD blocked 15 attempts with
Brandon Rossetti leading the team with four blocks and the visiting Golden Gusties finished with six blocks. UD's offense scored at 3:17 of the third period by
Brandon Rossetti snuck the puck past the goalie off an assist by
Brett Morich and
Sky Solig. UD trimmed the lead to just three goals when
Matt Downie scored at 16:24 of the third period off assists by
Nikita Borodayenko and newcomer
Brock Weimer.
Starter
Chris Curr took the loss after allowing four goals in 24:05 while making 14 saves.
Erik Chaffe came in for relief and played 33:34 and allowed one goal while making 16 stops. The final goal of the night was a Spartan empty netter when UD tried to grab an advantage in a late power play.
UD will return to the ice on Friday afternoon, Jan. 3 at 2:00 p.m. at ImOn Arena in the final contest of the weekend.
