Women's Basketball Takes Down Kohawks 60-51

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque women's basketball team took down the Coe College Kohawks 60-51 on Wednesday from the Stoltz Sports Center to snap a four game losing streak to the Kohawks.

For the first time since February 9, 2022, the Spartans defeated the Kohawks after a stellar performance on the defensive end of the floor. The Spartans held the Kohawks 1-16 (6.3%) from the perimeter and forced 19 turnovers, turning them into 23 points.

The Spartans opened the game on a 8-0, but the Kohawks responded with a 7-0 of their own shortly after. The Spartans defense held the opponent to only three made baskets in the opening quarter. The Spartans maintained the lead throughout the first quarter leading by eight with just under three minutes left before the half, but Coe finished the final minutes on a 7-2 run to make the score 27-24 in favor of the Spartans at the break.

Again the Spartans were able to constantly maintain a single digit lead and even when the Kohawks threatened, the Spartans responded. After a made free throw in the early stages of the fourth quarter to give the Spartans a six point lead, the Spartans would never trail by less ending the game with a 60-51 win.

Isabella Tierney finished the game with 13 points while Morgan Hawkins nearly had another double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds. Samantha McDonald added 11 points and was able to get to the line eight times, knocking down five free throws.

The Spartans move to 6-9 overall and 3-3 in conference play.
