DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque men's tennis opened the 2024-25 season on Sunday, September 1 when they hosted the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point Pointers on the Frank Farber Tennis Courts. UD would win two out of three doubles matches to collect the one point to start the match, but the Pointers rallied to capture all six singles matches in a 6-1 final.
The Spartans #1 doubles team of
Gavin Murrie and
Jake Wallrichs grabbed the match with a 6-4 victory. The #2 doubles team of
Pedwar Castillo and
Ryan Kiddle lost 2-6 and the #3 doubles of
Ryan Linkie and
Andrew Bollis grabbed the win and the double point with a 6-3 win. A new change this season is the scoring, last year all matches were worth a point in the nine point matches, this year the team who wins 2-3 doubles matches will get one point in the seven point matches.
The largest crowd of the season witnessed competitive tennis in nearly ideal conditions on the Labor Day weekend. The visiting Pointers would sweep the singles and grab all six points. The Spartans (0-1 overall) will next travel to St. Ambrose University on Monday, Sept. 9 at 4:00 p.m. in Davenport, Iowa.
