SAINT ANN, Mo. - The University of Dubuque softball team rallied in game one to defeat Fontbonne University by a 10-7 margin. UD collected the sweep after earning the win in game two by a 7-2 margin.
The Spartans trailed by as many as six runs in the opener, but the strong bat of
Bella Allison who went 4-4 at the plate helped the Spartans rally.
Grace Stevenson and
Tricia Sporaa both finished 2-4 on the afternoon. Stevenson led the team with four RBI's and Sporaa had two RBI's. UD scored 10 runs off 10 hits and committed one error.
The Spartans rallied to score six runs on four hits in the top of the third inning. UD grabbed the lead at the top of the fifth after stealing home for the 8-7 lead.
Paige Manning grabbed the victory on the mound after allowing five hits and no runs over 5.2 innings.
In game two of the doubleheader, three Spartans finished with multiple hits. Leadoff
Bella Allison went 2-4 with a pair of RBI's,
Megan Leick was 2-4 with two RBI's, and
Tricia Sporaa was 2-2 at the plate. UD scored seven runs off eight hits and played errorless. Sporaa and teammate
Lauren Jacobs both collected a triple in the contest.
Ciaran Rigby started and went the distance on the mound and allowed seven hits, struck out four, and allowed just two earned runs after facing 32 batters.
The Spartans will open play at the UD Softball Field against the Cornell College Rams in a doubleheader on Palm Sunday, March 24 slated for a 1:00 p.m. start. UD will open American Rivers Conference action on Easter Weekend, hosting the Coe College Kohawks on Saturday, March 30 at 1:00 p.m.
