Baseball Lose 0-1 Against Aurora University in a Battle of the Spartans

CAROL STREAM, Ill. - The University of Dubuque baseball team continued their road season on Friday afternoon at the Wheaton College Invitational at Lee Pfund Stadium against Aurora University. The two squads were held scoreless until the bottom of the eighth with two outs, Aurora captured just their second hit of the game with a homerun to right field for the game winning score, 1-0.

The Spartans collected seven hits including Colin Husko who went 2-4 at the plate with a double and a triple. Jake Cekander went 2-4 with a double as leadoff in the top of the fifth. Designated hitter Justin Hauser singled to left field in the sixth, but was thrown out on the steal to second. In the top of the eighth. UD would once again start the inning with a runner on first after Ixander Colon bunted and reached the base safely. A strike out left Colon at first. The Spartans Husko doubled to left center as Colon was thrown out as he advanced to third. A strike out ended the inning. The ninth inning, the Spartans started with a ground out and a strike out before Cekander singled to centerfield. UD's final out was a fly out to left field. The Spartans stranded seven runners on base in the loss.

Johnny Blake threw a complete game and fanned seven, allowed two hits and walked four after facing 28 batters.

UD (9-3 overall) will face Saint Mary's University (Minn.) at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 16 and the host Wheaton College Thunder at 2:30 p.m.
