Women's Basketball Cruises Past Beavers in A-R-C Matchup

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque women's basketball team picked up their third conference win of the season in convincing fashion on Saturday afternoon as they defeated the Buena Vista University Beavers 80-44 behind 16 points from Megan Teal

The three ball finally started to fall for the Spartans against the Beavers shooting 11-23 (47.8%) from beyond the arc. The 11 threes for the Spartans are the most in a game this season. The other story of the game was the second quarter as the Spartans fully dominated the quarter outscoring the Beavers 32-2. The Beavers scored with 8:43 left in the second and would not score again until 4:28 left in the third quarter. The Spartans defense was able to hold the Beavers scoreless for 13:15 minutes of game time and just before the Beavers scored the Spartans had their largest lead of the game leading 64-16. 

With the huge lead, the Spartans were able to get fresh faces into the game that normally do not see a lot of action. There was 18 Spartans that played in the game with 15 finding the scoring column. 

Teal finished with a game-high 16 points on 4-5 from the three point line. Isabella Tierney and Tabria Thomas also finished in double figures with 12 and 10 points respectively. Makenzie Knapp finished her 19 minutes with four assists and six rebounds which led the Spartans. In only five minutes off the bench, Christina Simonetti grabbed six rebounds. 

The Spartans now move to 9-5 overall and 3-2 in conference play.

The Spartans will travel to Cedar Rapids, Iowa to face the Coe College Kohawks next Wednesday night at 5:30 p.m. at the Kohawk Arena.
