ADRIAN, Mich. - The University of Dubuque Spartans wrapped up their weekend road trip to Michigan this afternoon. The Spartans battled in a 6-0 loss to #2 Adrian College Bulldogs.
More than halfway through the opening period, both teams were held scoreless. After a penalty by the Spartans, Adrian took advantage of the power play and scored the only goal of the first period at 17:11. The Spartans attempted seven of their 13 shots in the first period.
Phil Schader ripped off two shots while five other Spartans recorded a shot.Â
Adrian extended their lead with two goals in the second period as the Spartans trailed 3-0 heading into the final period of play. The Spartans had four opportunities on the power play in the third but came up empty handed. Adrian closed out the game with three more goals as the Spartans fell 6-0.
In total 11 different Spartans recorded a shot in today's game.
Patrick Toomey finished with 12 faceoff wins while
Thomas Gazich and
Jake Lamberty had three each. Defensively the Spartans had 10 blocked shots led by
Brandon Rossetti with three and
Tyler Alexander along with Schader had two each. Spartans goalkeeper,
Erik Chaffe recorded 32 saves (10,11,11) in 59:50 minutes of action.Â

The Spartans will continue to journey on the road as they travel to Lake Forest College next weekend. The first game of the series is set for Friday, February 2nd at 7:00 p.m.
