DUBUQUE, Iowa - After coming off their first win on Tuesday night at Grinnell, the University of Dubuque men's soccer team faced an unfamiliar opponent they do not face on a regular basis. The Saint Johns University Johnnies traveled to Oyen Field on Friday night and battled it out with the Spartans, but it was the Johnnies who capitalized on offense winning by a final score of 2-0.
The Spartans would have 10 shots on goal tonight compared to only six for the Johnnies and throughout the game it seemed like the Spartans had the better offensive attack. The ball would just refuse to go the right way throughout the games entirety as they left the double digit shot on goal attempts with no goals. The Johnnies went on a break in the 17th minute when they would strike for the games first goal. Just when it looked like the Spartans racked up their chances to tie it, the Johnnies were able to extend their lead off a corner kick that was headed in by a Johnnies player.Â
Lukas Sandanger,
Zilfi Aliu,
Michael Poitry, and
Luca Tafani each had two shot on goal attempts in the game to lead the Spartans. The Spartans had a total of seven corner kick attempts, one less than the Johnnies.
Matt Marchiori played in his fourth full game in goal and collected four saves.Â
