PELLA, Iowa - The University of Dubuque softball team dropped a doubleheader to the nationally ranked Central College Dutch on Sunday in a postponed series. The Spartans fell behind in game one 0-2 before tying the game in the sixth, scoring two runs in three hits and a Dutch error. UD would leave three on base in the inning. In the seventh, the Dutch stopped the Spartans with three at bats. In the bottom of the seventh, UD forced an out on a foul out to second base. A Ducth single through the left side put a runner on base. A sac bunt would advance the runner to second and the next at bat would double to left center scoring the runner from second. The Spartans made the throw to home and the home plate would call the play safe and the game ended in favor of Central 3-2. In game two it was all Dutch. The hosts scored eight runs off five hits as UD committed four errors in the first inning. Central added two runs in the third to lead 10-0 before UD scored a run in the fourth. The game ended in the fifth after UD was held to just three hits in a 1-10 loss.
UD scored two runs off five hits and committed one error in game one.
Madyson Dwight went 2-3 at the plate with an RBI and
Megan Leick was 1-3 with an RBI. UD left eight runners on base.
Ally Gullette accepted the loss after going 6.1 innings and allowing three earned runs. She faced 26 batters and struck out one.
Ciaran Rigby came in for relief and allowed one hit after facing two batters.
In game two,
Bella Allison went 1-2 at the plate and scored the lone run.
Kaitlyn Powell was 1-2 with a double and
Tricia Sporaa went 1-2.
Dariann Diorio had the only RBI in the loss.
Jaelyn Blakemore suffered the loss after allowing three earned runs after facing 12 batters.
Paige Manning came in for relief and tossed 3.1 innings and allowed two earned runs.
The Spartans have a lighter week with finals beginning on Monday, April 24. They have a postponed series at Luther College scheduled for Sunday, April 30 with game one first pitch at 1:00 p.m.
