DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque men's soccer team hosted UW-Platteville on a chilly Tuesday September night, where the Spartans were not able to score as the visiting Pioneers scored the lone goal to beat the Spartans 1-0.
The Spartans got off to a slow start in the opening half as they spent most of their time of the defensive side of the ball. The Pioneers finished with six shots and six corner kicks in the first half whereas the Spartans were held to zero corner kicks and got their only shot from
Drew Wisdom, but he just missed to the left of the net.
The Spartans were then able to come out of the locker room on a mission to find any kind of offensive momentum to spark their team. The Spartans would get two good looks from
Draek Littler towards the net, but one would miss left and the other got blocked by the Pioneers defense. A few minutes later, the Pioneers would get a ball into the box and after it hit off multiple people, the ball found the leg of a Pioneer to put them up 1-0. The Spartans had a few more opportunities to tie the game late including their only three corner kicks of the night, but fell short as they drop the non-conference contest.
After limited shots in the opening half, the Spartans finished with nine shots to match the Pioneers.
Gavin Wooldridge led the game with three shots taken and both Wisdom and Littler each added two. Goalie,
Matt Marchiori played all 90 minutes and collected three saves in the loss.
