DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque baseball team swept the Monmouth College Fighting Scots on Mother's Day to collect their 21st victory of the season. UD won game one by a 7-0 margin and collected game two victory by a 6-3 score.
Mitch Pomeroy ended the season leading the offense with a .351 batting average. He led the team with 31 RBI's in 151 at bats (ranks 8th in a season). He finished with 53 hits and scored 33 runs in 2022.
Kellen Mitchell trailed closely behind with a .330 average. He grabbed 33 hits in 100 at bats and finished with 22 RBI's. He led the team with 12 doubles and ranks as the UD all-time leader in walks in a career with 105. The Spartans hit as a team .289 and would finish second in a season RBI's with 231 and had 14 homeruns.
Pomeroy led the team in defense as well. In 272 chances, he compiled 247 put outs, 23 assists with just two errors for a fielding percentage of .993. He was part of 16 double-plays.
Jake Cekander led the team with 11 hit by pitches in a season which ties him in the record book for seventh place.
Max Snowden would end the year with 14-18 attempts at stolen bases. As a team, the Spartans had a fielding percentage of .957.
Derek Hardin led the pitching with an ERA of 1.40 which places him second in the school records in a season. He is also tied for seventh with four saves in a season. He tossed 38.2 innings with 20 strikeouts.
Edward Rosas finished with an ERA of 3.40 after 55.2 innings of work with a team high 50 strikeouts.
Jake Cekander had an ERA of 3.51 after 33.1 innings and was second on the team with 30 strikeouts. UD finished as a team with an ERA of 4.72, 285 strikeouts, and 113 walks.
The Spartans finished 21-18 overall in 2002, and 11-13 (7th) in American Rivers Conference play.
