WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The University of Dubuque women's track and field team sent four individuals to compete in the Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships this weekend in North Carolina. The Spartans got a great start in day one of the Indoor Track & Field Championships as freshman Kaitlyn Wilder shattered for personal best in the weight throw with a toss of 19.28 meters to top Chelsea Yang from Rhode Island College who entered as the #1 seed in the women's weight throw event. Wilder's previous best was 18.04 meters which she tossed last weekend at the UW-Platteville Last Chance Invite. Caroline Ferguson also earned All-American honors as she would finish 6th with a throw of 17.88 meters. 

Wilder entered the weight throw competition with a season best of 18.04m and improved with a first attempt with a toss of 18.55m. She went over 19 meters in her second toss of 19.05m. Her championship throw was her third attempt in 19.28m. She fouled in her fourth attempt and went 18.60m in her fifth. Her final toss was another respectable 19+ meter toss of 19.10m. She returns on Saturday to add another All-American effort in the shot put competition which begins at 10 a.m. Wilder and teammate Caroline Ferguson will both compete in flight two. Wilder will throw second and Ferguson will be fifth in the 10 competitor line-up. A total of 20 competitors will compete in the shot put on Saturday morning.
