DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque softball is playing host to the Simpson College Storm on the final weekend of the American Rivers Conference regular season. Friday the two squads were tied in league play 10-11 overall, but the visiting Storm would collect a sweep with 3-1 and a 6-2 victory over the Spartans to move up to fifth in the standings.
UD scored their lone run in game one in the fourth inning with one out when
Morgan Turnmire doubled to center field. UD would fly out before
Deanna Origer doubled down the right field line and scored Turnmire for the RBI.
The Spartans scored a run off four hits, two of them being doubles.
Nicolette Evans took the loss after allowing three runs in nine hits with one strike out.
In the second game, UD finished with two runs off six hits and committed two errors.The Spartans scored a run in the second inning on a Storm error. The second run of the game happened in the sixth inning when lead off
Morgan Turnmire homered to left center, a solo shot for the RBI.
Deanna Origer ended the afternoon with 2-4 at the plate.
Emily Bloomer collected the lone double. UD would leave seven runners on base.
Lexi Schmidt suffered the loss after facing 35 Storm batters. She would allow three earned runs and 10 hits while fanning two batters.
The two squads continue play on Saturday, May 8 at 1 p.m. for the third game of the weekend series on Senior Day for the Spartans. Senior Day will be prior to the start of the contest.
