INDIANOLA, Iowa - The University of Dubuque women's basketball team closed out the 2021 regular season on Saturday, dropping a road contest at #14 Simpson, 103-61.
UD would fall behind 9-0 in the opening 2:36 and could never recover, digging themselves a 21-8 hole after one quarter and 57-17 at halftime. The Spartans played a much better second half, playing the Storm to a 46-44 score over the final two quarters but the cold shooting first half was too much to overcome.
Tabria Thomas was led the Spartans in both scoring and rebounding on Saturday afternoon, scoring 13 points while grabbing five rebounds. The inside duo of
Alli Bailey and
Miah Smith combined for 16 points with nine and seven points, respectively.
The Spartan women close the regular season with a 6-6 overall record and 5-3 in conference play. UD will finish no worse than fifth place in the conference depending on next week's results with Coe and Central.
UD has the final week of the regular season off and will now wait for the completion of the rest of the conference schedule before finding out their seed for the American Rivers Conference Tournament. The Spartans first game in the tournament will be on Tuesday, Mar. 9.
