Clayton Gray

Clayton Gray is in his third season working with the Spartan sprinters and hurdlers in 2020-2021 after competing as a Spartan himself.

The sprints and hurdles group has thrived immediately under Coach Gray’s tutelage as the men earned a 1-2-3 podium sweep of the 100M dash and the women swept the 100M, 200M, and 4x100M titles at the 2019 American Rivers Conference Outdoor Championships. Gray coached Alison Beeman in 2019 to All-American honors indoors in the 200M and outdoors in the 100M and 200M. Her mark of 11.78s in the 100 and 23.75 in the 200 set new school records. In the 2020 season, the Spartans continued to shine in the sprints. The UD women set new school records in the 55M, 60M, 200M 4x200M, and 4x400M races, winning the 200M and 4x400M at the A-R-C Indoor Championships. UD men set new a new record in the 4x400M relay indoors. Ya’Mia Ailes-Primes (60M and 200M) and Alison Beeman (200M) won All-American honors in 2020.

As an athlete, Coach Gray was a team captain and an NCAA qualifier in the men’s 4x100m relay team in 2018. He was a member of the Iowa Conference championship 4x100m relay and a multiple-time All-IIAC performer and Drake Relays qualifier. He is ranked in the top-5 in UD history in the 55m hurdles, 60m hurdles, 110m hurdles, 4x100m relay and is a member of the school record shuttle hurdle relay team.

Gray is a native of Manchester, Iowa and currently resides in Dubuque.
